50mm PaK38
Gaso.Line Kit #50119
1:48 Scale
Review by Terry Ashley

Gaso.Line apart from their update sets also produce full resin kits of vehicles and equipment in 1:48 scale and this full kit of the 50mm PaK38 A/T gun is an example.

The set consists of 28 parts in grey resin and a metal 50mm barrel plus a short length of copper wire with the quality of casting being okay but there is considerable excess resin film to be removed from most parts and some of the smaller parts are compromised by this such as the hand wheels.

There are also a few minor air holes to contend with but nothing excessive and a few parts were broken in transit due to the resin being quite hard and brittle which should be taken into consideration when cleaning up and assembling the parts.

After removing the casting blocks and excess resin you will need to clean up the parts further such as open out the holes in the muzzle brake to some extent and drill out some locating holes in the breech for the barrel, the shield locating holes and the axle supports.

The main parts of the gun are the cradle and breech in one piece plus the lower gun cradle and gun shield which is also cast in one piece with indentations around the edges to simulate the spaced shields and you will need to clean up the excess resin from this groove somewhat for a better appearance.

The barrel as mentioned is metal with a separate resin muzzle brake that will need the holes opened out and the pin on the back of the muzzle brake didn’t fit into the barrel opening without trimming but this is easy to remedy.

There are many smaller parts to be added to the cradle and lower axle assembly and again care will be needed when cleaning these parts and fitting in place.

The stamped steel wheels are quite nice but lack tread pattern and the inner pressed “spokes” have a flat profile and not curved as they should be but should be passable in this smaller scale.

The instructions are in the form of small black and white photos of the model during construction with the parts called out by number but you will need to study these carefully as some are not that clear on the part placement.

Conclusion:
Overall a nice little model should be able to be made from the kit but it is not for the inexperienced modeller as there is a fair bit of clean up required and some modifications and trimming of the parts during assembly and the instructions will need careful study but the inclusion of the metal barrel is a nice touch.

Recommended for 1:48 fans.
