book Ground Power Magazine #95 - 4/2002
Published by Delta Publishing Co.Ltd. Japan

This issues comprises three main sections.

The first section of 99 pages is part 2 on the King Tiger, this time covering mostly the interior.

Starting with 4 pages of colour close-up photos of exterior hull details there is then 17 pages of wartime photos of the King Tiger with a few showing the crew and their uniforms.

The next 56 pages are devoted to extreme close-up shots of the interior. Along with the photos are line drawings detailing the photos shown. Included are another 4 pages of colour photos of the turret interior.

Every part of the interior is covered from the transmission at the front to the hull and turret to the engine compartment and engine, this includes shots of the engine out of the vehicle as well as cross-section drawings of the engine internals.

The use of the detailed drawings next to the photos gives an superb understanding of the sections being shown, for example in the turret, the photos of seats, turret basket etc. are supplemented with plan drawings showing the exact angle and placement of the parts. This is just the ticket for modellers.

Following this is a section giving an appraisal of the performance of the Tiger II against the Russian T34-85 and IS/ISU series tanks. Unfortunately the text is all in Japanese, but there are tables showing the performance of the 8.8cmKwK43 gun against the 122mmD-25, 100mmBS-3 and 85mmZIS-S-53 guns.

In all this is a sensational coverage of the King Tigers internals, if you are planning to add an interior to the new Tamiya King Tiger (Kit No.35252) this has everything you will need.

The next 21 pages are of Japanese Cavalry Units, with a fair amount of text (again in Japanese) with wartime photos.

Finally there is Part 2 of British Soft Skinned vehicles of WWII. This 27 page section covers the many 15-cwt trucks used by the British. Types covered are the Austin, Bedford, Commer, Ford, Guy, Morris-Commercial and CMP vehicles. There is a few photos of each with the various subtypes shown, as you would expect with so many vehicles covered there is limited coverage of each type. But it is a useful reference showing the many different types in service.

Again another excellent issue for the modeller.
