IBG Models 120mm figure set #20003
Review by Terry Ashley

For fans of large scale WWI figures, IBG Models from Poland have released a series of resin and white metal kits depicting various combatants from the trenches of WWI.

This figure is of a Russian Army Officer in casual pose wearing the typical uniform of the time and is quite colourful with all the decorations and consists of six parts in grey/green resin and six in white metal that includes a small base to stand the figure on once completed.

The quality of the resin is good with no blemishes such as air holes and minimal cleanup of small casting blocks and some fine resin film here and there. The white metal parts will need more cleanup as there are some substantial casting seams and a bit of excess metal to be removed.

The detail on the figures is well defined with most details included on the castings making for easy assembly but some items could have displayed better relief and definition if they were separate parts in this large scale. The fabric folds and details are nicely represented and will come up well with painting as will the facial features.

Breakdown of the figures sees the upper torso and lower torso with legs as separate parts and the arms and head as additional parts plus the white metal helmet and sword.

The lower sections of the tunic are hollow and the lower torso fits up inside the tunic and is not just a butt join as we see on so many resin figures. This gives nice relief around the lower edges of the tunic and very easy assembly as the parts fit together snugly after cleanup. This will also allow you to paint the sections separately and fit together later is desired.

The fit of the arms was good with square locating lugs that fit into corresponding holes in the shoulders to ensure they sit at the right angle and this further eases any problems during assembly.

The sword hand guard and small straps are separate metal parts that fit easily and add a bit more detail definition to the model.

Conclusion:
A simple figure with nice details with a bit of cleanup needed on the metal parts but the easy assembly will allow you to concentrate on the painting process.

The figure should be welcomed by fans of larger scale figures as well as WWI modellers.

Recommended.
