WWII U.S.M.C. Stretcher Team
1/35th Figure Set No. WA35545
Review by Terry Ashley

This is a fully self contained mini-vignette with a base and five figures but could easily be combined in a larger diorama if desired.

The scene is of a four Leathernecks carrying a stretcher with a wounded buddy to safety and sees each walking figure made up of five resin parts each of full body, separate arms and head, plus separate hand to be attached to the stretcher. The wounded guy is moulded with the stretcher and has a separate head with bandage and separate left foot.

The casting quality is generally very good but due to the legs being moulded with the upper body there are some minor casting seams on the insides of the legs that need removing but nothing very difficult and doesn't mar the nice uniform details.

The typical Marine Herringbone twill utilities are well moulded with nice details and fabric folds with the addition of cartridge belts on three figures and water canteens, each walking figure is armed with a Garand M-1 rifle and as a nice attention to detail there is an indentation over each shoulder for the rifle sling which you have to supply yourself from lead strip, paper or tape which ever you prefer. Additionally there is a bayonet and jungle knife to add to each figure as well as section of barren groundwork like you might see on any of the island after months of bombardment has stripped the ground bare.

The figure are nicely detailed and go together for a dramatic scene probably played out many times during the bloody island hopping campaigns.

Recommended for figure modellers as well as diorama builders.

The figure set is available in the US from VLS and in Australia from Firestorm Models.
