Demag D-7 Flak 38 Crew
1/35th Figure Set No. WA35550
Review by Terry Ashley

This set of four figures provides a crew for the Italeri Demag D-7 Flak 38 (kit 371) and has the Driver, seated Gunner, Loader and Commander with each figure wearing the reversible winter parka, woollen gloves and trousers with steel helmet.

The figures are cleanly cast in light cream resin with just the normal casting blocks to be removed and there are also some minor casting seams to be removed from the lower legs on a couple of the figures but nothing problematic.

The uniform details are well done with good fabric folds and seams that should come up well with careful painting.

The seated Gunner has the body in a single casting with separate head, left arm and right hand to allow for better detail definition. Assembly was straightforward with good fit of the parts and there is a small indentation on his butt for the gunner’s seat for a good fit.

The squatting Loader is just two parts, the full body and head with winter hood in place and a separate right arm holding a 20mm ammo cartridge.
The detail on the head, helmet and hood combination is very well done with crisp deep definition but the right arm is markedly thicker than the left arm and does make the figure a little unbalanced in appearance with the figure also being noticeably larger than the others in the set.

The standing Commander is again has a full body casting with separate head, left and right arms holding a pair of binoculars.
The binoculars are very finely cast and unfortunately broke a couple of times while removing the excess resin and extreme care is needed here.
Assembly is straight forward with good fit of the parts but make sure of the correct alignment of the binoculars when adding the arms.

The Driver is the final figure and is a full casting with just a separate right arm with indentations for the kit steering wheel and again the head, helmet and hood combination is very well done with crisp deep definition with good uniform details but you may want to test fit the right arm to the kit steering wheel before gluing to ensure a snug fit.

Conclusion:
In all a nice crew set for the Demag with good details but the occasional size discrepancy and the figures could also find holes in different situations.
