Fallschirmjäger
1/9th Bust No. WA9062
Review by Terry Ashley

This set is a large 1/9th scale bust of an Fallschirmjäger trooper armed with an MP-44 and wears the typical Fallschirmjäger helmet with tunic finished in Luftwaffe-Splinter pattern and wearing woollen gloves and separate gas mask container.

The quality of the casting is excellent and the detail on the figure is superb with crisp well defined uniform details while the facial features are well executed and extremely realistic with the hands cast integral with the MP-44 for better definition.

There are the usual casting blocks to be removed and unfortunately they left some sizable air holes to be filled on the arms but these are easy enough to deal with. The fabric seam on the right arm will have to be re-scribed once the casting block is removed but this again is fairly easy due to the size of the parts.

The arms joins have large square locating blocks and pins for precise location while the head with neck scarf fits snugly into the collar opening.

The right arm has the main body of the MP-44 included while the forward barrel section with separate sight is included with the left arm and quite a bit of excess resin had to be removed from inside the left hand before it could be correctly attached and some test fitting will determine the amount needed to be removed.

To ensure precise location of the two parts of the MP-44, I inserted a pin from plastic rod in the main body and drilled a locating hole in the barrel section once the left hand had been opened up to accept the main body (see images below).

The fit of the two arms so the gun parts lined up correctly left a small gap at the back of the left arm as I had attached the right arm first and let dry before attaching the left arm but this gap is easily filled with filler or thick cyanoacrylate and it is not excessive.

You will need to provide some form of base to sit the bust on as the MP-44 magazine extends below the level of the bust but most modellers will do this anyway?

Overall another highly detailed bust with good details and should look impressive when painted as the box top photo of the finished figure shows.

Highly recommended

The figure set is available in the US from VLS and in Australia from Firestorm Models.
