20mm KwK 30 L/50 Barrel
armorscale Set No. B35-027

1:35th Scale

Review by Terry Ashley

The Set:
This simple barrel from armorscale is for the vehicle mounted 20mm KwK 30 L/50 cannon as used on the Sd.Kfz.222 Armoured Car Early, Sd.Kfz.232 6 Rad, Sd.Kfz.232 8 Rad Early and Pz.Kpfw II Ausf A to F. It should be noted this barrel is different from the Flak 30/38 barrel which is longer than the KwK 30.

The barrel is machined in a single piece with two small etched parts for the muzzle attachment, you actually get three each of the etched parts to allow for loss as they are very small which is a nice inclusion by armorscale.

Dimensionally the 1:35 plans in the Panzer Tracts No.2-1 Panzerkampwagen II Ausf.A-C indicates the barrel is about 1mm short and the flash suppressor is slightly undersized.
The barrel features nice contours but doesn't have the textured hand grip segments or the larger open holes around the flash suppressor neck but does have the muzzle flash suppressor being fully hollowed out with clean holes in the suppressor.

Fitting to any applicable kit is very easy with just a 2mm locating hole for the metal barrel to be drilling into the kit mantlet and the metal barrel then simply replaces the kit barrel.

Conclusion:
This is a nice barrel from armorscale but is slightly undersized in length and flash surpressor size with the lack of other details such as the larger neck holes and textured hand grips making it not as detailed as the more recent release from Lionmarc/Passions Models (set #LM10027).

Recommended only just.

Thanks to armorscale for the review set.
