105mm StuH 42 L/28
armorscale Set No. B35-039
1:35th Scale
Review by Terry Ashley

This barrel set from armorscale provides the 10.5cm StuH 42 L/28 barrel with the early style of muzzle brake added to the gun with the initial StuH 42 L/28 guns not having a muzzle brake and there is also a later style muzzle brake which is the subject of the 10.5cm StuH 42 L/28 barrel set from ABER (set #35L18).

This set consists of five metal parts, seven etched parts and a cast resin Saukopf mantlet which is the initial type without the machine gun opening.

The barrel has the now standard thread for the muzzle brake with while not scale size allows you to easily add the assembled muzzle brake to the barrel and this does make the final assembly very easy.

The muzzle brake is in two main parts with the rear threaded section and forward section with the two large gas holes as well as the inner grommet with two additional etched flanges for good detail.

The mantlet is cleanly cast with virtually no casting block clean-up and has very subtle cast texture on the surface and to fit this to the target kit requires some minor alterations to the inner kit gun mounting, this is basically the same for the Dragon or Tamiya StuG kits.

Assembly is very straightforward with the fit on the various parts being spot on not requiring any filing, filling or other alterations with the fit of the barrel into the resin mantlet being so snug it will hold in place without glue if you don’t feel included to do so.
There is also a fine engraved line added to the barrel indicating how far to insert the barrel into the mantlet ensuring you get the correct barrel length which matches available  1:35 plans exactly.

The small instruction sheet is very clear and shows the basic alterations needed on either the Dragon or Tamiya StuG kits as well as the barrel assembly.

Conclusion:
Another excellent barrel from armorscale with very clean metal and etched parts as well as a cleanly cast mantlet with no problems during assembly for a quick and easy kit update to add that extra bit of detail.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to armorscale for the review set.
