Decal Star released a number of dry transfer markings sets and a few resin updates some years ago but went out of business unfortunately as their items were generally of good quality. M.S.Model of Japan have now re-released four of the resin sets again under the Decal Star label designed for the Tamiya Sd.Kfz.9 18t "FAMO" (kits #35239 and #35246) that provide the canvas covers for the Driver's, and rear troop/cargo compartments to add to the final appearance of those impressive kits.

This forth set (#D-030) is for the folded Driver's compartment canvas tilt cover and consists on a single casting in light cream resin with just the usual casting block to be removed.

Standard of resin casting is superb without any air holes or other blemishes with excellent detail included on both the outside and inside of the part.

One the outside are excellent canvas contours along the rear edge tie down loops, these could be extended a little with tape for a better appearance once the cover is in place on the model.

On the inside are the inner canvas folds nicely represented including the reinforcing strips and you can add the "windows" from thin plastic film; kitchen food cling wrap does very nicely for the final touch.

The cover fits straight to the Tamiya kits without any troubles although there may be some minor trimming needed on the inside lower edges at the back but test fitting will determine if this is needed?

Conclusion:

This is a simple update for the folded Driver's compartment cover on the Tamiya FAMO kits with the standard of resin casting being superb with very little cleanup required.

The fit to the Tamiya kit is very good making for a quick and easy update to add a different appearance to the kits and you can use all or any combination of the four sets for further variety.
