3.7cm Flak36 Barrel
Model Point Set 3564
1:35th Scale
Review by Terry Ashley

Tamiya Tamiya
The set:
Model Point have produce two versions of this replacement FlaK36/37 barrel designed for the Tamiya kits Sd.Kfz.7/2 (kit #35144) and 3.7cm FlaK37 AA Gun (kit #35145). The original had a solid brass flash suppressor which was lacking in any sort of detail, while this updated version (also set #3564) has the same brass barrel tube with a new flash suppressor with the small holes drilled in the suppressor cone and this is the version we look at here.

The set has the barrel tube that includes the front section of the gun housing and the separate brass flash suppressor with no cleanup needed on either part. Dimensionally the flash suppressor size is okay but is 1mm longer than the 1:35 plans in Panzer Tracks No.12 Flak Selbstfahrlafetten and Flakpanzer and the barrel length is also 1mm longer than indicated in the plans which in turn makes the overall length 2mm to long.

The flash suppressor is fully hollowed out with cleanly drilled holes in the flash suppressor and has the thinnest cone edges in any of the available barrels. Unfortunately the "holes" in the suppressor neck are not opened up and are just indentations which distracts from the final appearance.
The barrel as mentioned also includes the front section of the gun housing with the barrel retaining collars included, this isn't a problem only that you just cut off the kit barrel at the appropriate point including the corresponding section of the plastic gun housing.

Fitting the barrel to the Tamiya kits:
The fit of the flash suppressor to the barrel was very good and all that is required to fit the metal barrel to either of the Tamiya kits is to carefully cut off the plastic barrel and front section of the gun housing, then drill an appropriate sized hole for the pin on the metal barrel which is then attached to the kit gun.

Conclusion:
This is quite a reasonable replacement barrel if a little longer than the Panzer Tracts indicate but the lack of open suppressor neck holes is a bit of a let down.
