K5(E) 'Leopold' Ammunition
for Dragon or Trumpeter K5 Kits
Review by Terry Ashley
Following on from their excellent K5 barrel Schatton Modellbau have
also released a set of ammunition for either the Dragon or Trumpeter K5 kit.
The set consists of just four finely machined brass pieces with two
Gr 42 rounds and two empty shell cases, the separate rounds and cases are
designed
to fit together like the real items and due to the precise tolerances they
fit together snuggly without the use of any glue.
The details such as the driving band and shell contours match the available
information and the shell cases are hollowed out completely and look perfect
if included separately or fitted with the Gr 42 round in a diorama setting
or just on the model.
Note; The scanning process causes some distortion in the images of the brass
parts but they in fact perfectly smooth and blemish free.
Below is a quick comparison of the Gr 42 rounds from Schatton Modellbau,
Verlinden (from set #2031)
and the Dragon or Trumpeter K5
kits that show the Schatton Modellbau and Trumpeter rounds to be
the most
accurate although the shell cases in the Trumpeter kit have very thick
walls
and don't fit the rounds without considerable modification. The Verlinden rounds
are overscale and lack details as well as not fitting the shell
cases
without
modification
while
the
Dragon kit has the round only but this is also oversized and lacks details.
Without a doubt the Schatton Modellbau are the most accurate and easy
to assemble Gr 42 rounds and will certainly add a touch of finese to your K5
model
or
diorama and for Gr 35 rounds you can't go past the Nuts'n'Bits rounds.
