As you would expect the kit is basically the same as the earlier release with the same excellent details and clean crisp mouldings with the Modelkasten tracks plus the addition of two new sprues with new late parts and two new figures.
The comments in the review of the first Panzer 1A kit also apply here so I will just deal with the new and updated parts in this new kit.
The lower hull and running gear are the same but the upper hull is all new and is split into three sections, the front transmission cover, central fighting compartment and rear engine bay. The central section also has weld seams added between the plates, something that was missing on the first kit. These are quite nicely moulded but could do with a light sanding to take off the “sharp” ridges; I stress a very light sanding.
The front transmission cover has the as a separate part which will allow you show off the interior if you have the Tristar Panzer 1 Interior set. Other new parts include the cylindrical horn and NOTEK light as seen on the late version.
The rear engine decking has the four fuel filler caps as well as separate engine access doors and intake grill door. Also included are the smoke grenade racks often seen on Afrika Korps and later vehicles, this consist of separate smoke grenades, central rack and side supports for a total of 9 parts for the assembly, all that is needed is some fine chain for the grenade caps.
The new figures consist of a full and three quarter figure with alternate heads for the Afrika Korps and Polish campaign with the large tankers beret or field cap. The details on the uniforms and faces are everything we have come to expect from Tristar figures and include etched parts for the ear phones.
The decals have thin carrier film with fairly basic generic markings for one vehicle from the African and Polish campaigns.
Another excellent kit from Tristar with some nice enhancements on the first kit as well as provision to show off the interior without resorting to surgery yourself.
Highly recommended.
