Cromwell
Tank
Update Set
No. 1413
Review by Terry Ashley
This set from Verlinden is
designed for the Tamiya Kit No.35221. It contains 34 resin parts plus the previously
released "British Tank Crew" figures. Also included is a fret of etched metal
The quality of the resin casting is excellent, included is an external fuel drum
with a new rear plate incorporating mounting brackets for this tank. A small
section
of the engine is included to fill the "hole" left by the separate piece in the
Tamiya engine deck. The rest of the resin bits include the storage boxes found
on various Cromwells, with a selection of British style ammo boxes and 'Jerry
cans'. There are 8 'U.S.' style periscopes from the Sherman update set included
and as mentioned the older figure set, which is a nice bonus.
The etched metal fret includes
engine compartment grills, a few mounting brackets for the jerry cans and other
bits plus other small fittings. Unfortunately the quality of the etching metal
leaves much to be desired. The engine grills are not cleanly etched resulting
in the grills being "a mess" (see pic). This is a pity as it means you still
have
to buy the Eduard or Tamiya etched sets to get these grills.
Overall this is a good update set with nice resin bits and some useful etched
parts and will certainly enhance what is already and impressive kit.
